February Spotlight Yvette Newman-Discovery Toys My name is Yvette Newman. I am a wife and mother of three. I have always since a little girl loved to be a teacher or a teachers aid. Well my dreams never truly came true. I worked for many years in the public school tutoring and printing projects for the teacher. I even worked in the Library logging all the books on computer. I started my own daycare in August of 2000. It was a in home daycare that held up to 7 kids. My daycare was a learning daycare we did everything from computer time, 2 activities daily , story time & walked. I even had storytellers come in to read and even had clowns & music teachers. I enjoyed my daycare until my health got the best of me. I had to let it go. I miss those kids dearly. Well in July 2007 I wanted to do something educational again but what...then I remembered when my two teenagers were small, I use to have Discovery toys parties. I always loved there toys and remembered the teachers talking about them. I called Ruth, which is my manager now, and asked how to join. I started right away with booking parties inviting everyone I could think of even if they had no kids. My grand opening was a great turn out. After that, I started calling daycares & getting my name out by calling all camp grounds, etc. Well two months into my business my husband got very sick and was hospitalized for weeks with a blood clot which even confused the doctors. I had to put my business on hold. My manager helped me greatly and understood. I made calls when my husband was going through test and in 3 months I made group manager. My manager, Ruth was amazed and always asks me to tell others my story.
